The myth that only Jews have a connection to Israel is no more emphatically disproven than through SAFI. The flagship initiative of the SAZF engages with other faith, cultural, and ethnic groups within South Africa to strengthen the support base for Israel and mitigate delegitimising campaigns that seek to misinform South Africans about Eretz Yisrael.

Jewish National Fund (JNF)

Israel has a luscious history of environmental consciousness, much like South Africa.
South Africa’s branch of the JNF was established in 1901 – shortly after the global KKL-JNF – and has made its carbon footprint through fundraising various projects in Israel (such as the South Africa Forest and Drop of Life Campaign), as well as forestry and education projects in Limpopo, Mamelodi, and Cape Town.

Women’s International Zionist Organisation of South Africa (WIZO)

A strong woman stands up for herself; but strong women stand up for everyone else.
The Women’s International Zionist Organisation of South Africa believes in empowering women through their strong identification with Israel.
Since its creation in the 1930s, WIZO has been involved in numerous outreach programs concerning education and social welfare.

IUA-UCF

The joint mission of the IUA-UCF is to ensure the continuity of Zionism is South Africa, as well as the safety and well-being of the community. The organization is responsible for funding the vital work of the SAZF and the Israel Centre, the CSO, SAJBD, and SAUJS.

VISIT ISRAEL CENTRE

The Israel Centre is the Jewish Agency’s representative in South Africa, with a predominant focus on assisting South Africans who wish to make Aliyah.
Through their Shlichim (emissaries), the Centre works closely with the various youth movements throughout the country, and also offers several educational and volunteer programs that can be attended during and post high school.

Maccabi SA

With South Africa priding itself on being a distinguished sporting nation, Maccabi SA reveres itself as the custodian of Jewish sport in the country.
As one of six Confederations of Maccabi World Union (MWU), Maccabi SA aims to combine green and gold with blue and white by utilising sport as a means to bring Jewish people of all ages closer to Judaism and Israel.

The South African Jewish Board of Deputies (SAJBD)

With anti-Semitism seemingly on the rise in South Africa, the role of the SA Jewish Board of Deputies as a voice for the South African Jewish community has become more vital than ever.
The umbrella organisation liaises on behalf of South African Jewry with government, political parties, social entities, and ordinary citizens.
The primary mandate of the Board is to combat anti-Semitism through legal action, education, political lobbying, and media activism, while building bridges of friendship and understanding between Jews and the broader South African population.

South African Jewish Board of Education (SAJBE)

The SA Board of Jewish education has led the pursuit of Jewish education within the South African community since 1929.
The SABJE is the controlling body of the King David Schools and represents all Jewish day schools in engagements with Government, the Department of Education, The National Association of Independent Schools, and the Independent Examination Board.

Union of Orthodox Synagogues (UOS)

The Union of Orthodox Synagogues is the largest Jewish religious organisation in the country and caters to the needs of 95% of the Jewish community.
The UOS oversees South Africa’s globally-recognised Beth Din (under the auspices of Chief Rabbi Warren Goldstein) and provides services such as marriage, divorce (Gett), conversion, adoption, and legal disputes.

SA Union of Progressive Judaism (SAUPJ)

South Africa possesses a flourishing Progressive Reform community which is preserved by the SA Union of Progressive Judaism.
The SAUPJ provides moral, physical, and financial assistance to existing and prospective Progressive Reform Jewish congregations, communities, associations, and organisations.
